Obituary

Life’s Journey

Mrs. Minnie Lee Adams, 73, was born on January 2, 1937 in Amsterdam, Georgia to the loving parents of Lewis McGriff and Zora Mann. Minnie spent her childhood years in Amsterdam, Georgia, where she frequently worked on a tobacco farm with her father. It was in Amsterdam where she met her future husband, Curtis Adams. After graduating high school, Minnie and Curtis made their way to Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL. The two made their wedding vows and were happily married while in college on July 6, 1955.

After being married for 2 years, the happy couple was overjoyed with the birth of their first child, Sheryl. Her birth was soon followed by their second child, Tyrone (deceased). Being married with two small children while still in college made life difficult for the young couple. However, by making friends with other married couples with children, they were all able to pool their resources together to balance their school responsibilities with raising a family.

Minnie graduated from Florida A&M with a degree in mathematics. The family moved to Ft. Pierce shortly thereafter. While living in Ft. Pierce, their youngest son LeMoyne was born. Minnie then furthered her education by receiving a masters degree from Knoxville College. The family moved to Orlando in 1969. This would be the city that they would call home.

Shortly after moving to Orlando, Minnie became a baptized believer at Washington Shores Church of Christ, where she was a devoted Christian for over 30 years. Minnie began her career with Orange County Public School (OCPS) as a teacher, librarian and guidance counselor. In addition to a long career with OCPS, she also was the founding member of the Tri-County Sickle Cell Disease Foundation. Minnie and Curtis were also owners of the Orlando Flea Market, which they operated for over 20 years.

Minnie departed life on January 30, 2010. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory: her husband, Curtis Adams; three children, Sheryl Coney (Larry), Tyrone Adams (deceased), and LeMoyne Adams (Athena); 7 grandchildren, Tyrone, Nicole, Vincent, Koral, Kortni, Curtis and Alicia; 2 great-grandchildren, Cameron and Bethany;

Five sisters, Ruby Burke (Willie) Whigham, Georgia, Rosemary Butler (General) Orlando, Florida, Shirley Mann, Marion Darby and Jacqueline Harris (Jerome) all of Havana, Florida; three brothers Marzell Mann (devoted friend Rose), Curtis Mann, and Charles Mann (Beverly) all of Havana, Florida. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Minnie was the example of a Christian woman and will be truly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
