Obituary

Franklin Donald Laury was born to the union of Frank and Antoinett Laury on December 21, 1935, in Winston Salem, North Carolina. His childhood days in Winston Salem were spent attending local schools which resulted in his graduation from Atkins High School in 1954.

Upon graduation he joined the United States Navy, where he met and later married Deloris Newsome. As a Sailor in the United States Navy, his assignments included Morocco (North Africa), Rhode Island, Panama Canal Zone and Orlando, Florida, where he later retired after twenty-one years of service.

Shortly after his departure from the United States Navy, he started a career with the Florida Department of Corrections. While serving as a Correctional Officer, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Rollins College. He received numerous promotions; ultimately retiring as Training Manager in 1994.

He enjoyed his retirement years traveling, collecting antiques, and spending time with his friends and family. He accepted Christ at Community Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Dr. Henry McKinnon, where he was a member of the male choir and later joined Elim Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his lovely devoted wife of fifty-two years, Deloris Laury; his children, Kenneth Laury (Lillie), Damon Laury (Sherrie), Michelle Laury, and Anthony Laury (Latania); he is also survived by ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends.
